Jeanerette's Outstanding Acheivers to be Honored

The Jeanerette Chamber of Commerce is honoring Jeanerette's Outstanding Achievers at 6 p.m. on February 6 at the Ward Eight Recreation Center.

Ronald Sovine is being honored as this year's Outstanding Citizen. Other achievers include Alice Bodin, Outstanding Senior Citizen; Dodie Viator Thibodeaux, Outstanding Volunteer; Patrick Landry, Outstanding Professional; Oscar Vargas Navarro, Outstanding Youth Worker; Tanya Rosamond, Outstanding Educator; Tia and Cameron Simmons, Outstanding Couple and Ken'Nadi Johnita Broussard, Outstanding Student.

Alice Bodin is employed by the 16th Judisical District, District Attorney's Office where she serves as a case manager of the Family Service Division at Jefferson Island Road Elementary and Center Street Elementary. She had served as a teacher for the Iberia Parish School and St. Mary Parish school systems for many years.  Mrs. Bodin has been active in the community serving on the board of the Jeanerette Museum, Chamber of Commerce, Republican Iberia Parish Executive Counsel, St. Mary Parish Republican Women, New Iberia Garden Club, Entre Nous, and St. John the Evangelist Catholic Daughters.

She is a member of the Louisiana Association of Teachers of Math, Louisiana Reading Association, Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, Phi Delta Kappa, and Iberia Parish Retired Teacher Association.

Mrs. Bodin has received the DAR Award, Maxim Doucet Outstanding Educator Award, Who's Who Outstanding Educators, G. W. Hamilton Elementary Service Award and was named the Outstanding Math Teacher of North Street Elementary.

Mrs. Bodin holds a Bachelor of Arts in Education from the University of Southwestern Louisiana (now UL Lafayette), a Masters of Education in Administration from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and a Masters of Education in Supervision from UL Lafayette.

She is married to Calvin Bodin and is the stepmother of three children. She also has eight step grandsons and one step granddaughter.

Dodie Viator Thibodeaux is the owner of a lawn service and participates in many fundraisers including the Amy Buteau Rag Ball Tournament, Dayton Boutte Rag Ball Tournament and the 5K for Helping Hands. She has been a Tball coach for four years and and girls 11-14 year old softball coach. She also enjoys helping in the community wherever she can. She has three children, Austin, Shelby and Rhett Thibodeaux.

Patrick Landry serves as a member of executive management at First National Bank of Jeanerette. He is a member of the Iberia and West St. Mary DU, a volunteer coach for Franklin Youth baseball, a member of Ducks Unlimited and a member of Iberia CCA and LBA.

He has served as vice president of lending for First National Bank and was formerly a staff accountant for Castaing, Hussey & Lolan CPAs.

he holds a Bachelor Degree in Accounting from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and is a graduate of Jeanerette Senior High School.  He is the son of Walter and Faye Landry. He is married to Cara Barrilleaux Landry and the couple have two daughters, Ava and Emma.


Oscar Vargas Navarro is a senior at Jeanerette Senior High School and is the president and founder of the Jeanerette Youth Beautification Committee. He has served as the clean up coordinator for Jeanerette Live, the JROTC Battalion Commander, the president of the Jeanerette Chamber Youth Advisory Board, secretary of the Jeanerette Chamber of Commerce and is a member of the Sugar City Growers Co-op. He has worked in various roles from carpentry to gardening. Mr. Vargas has won several awards including the Honesty and Integrity Masonic Award, Outstanding 4-H Award, JROTC Excellence Award, Outstanding Academic Excellence Award, Outstanding Military Excellence Award, Living Legend Award and many others.

Tanya Rosamond has served in education for many years and is currently the Principal of Chitimacha Tribal School.

 She has served in many roles in the school system including serving as assistant principal for J. A. Hernandez Elementary, a Success for All Reading Facilitator, and an elementary teacher.  She has served in education roles at Willow Street Elementary, Grand Marais Elementary, and Baldwin Elementary.

Mrs. Rosamond has served as a lector of St. John the Evangelist Church, as a member of Chi Chapter Delta Kappa Gamma Organization Society, a member of the St. John/Hanson School Board, St. Joseph School Board, Jeanerette Recreational Development Association, and Jeanerette Chamber of Commerce.

She holds a Masters of Education degree from the University of Southwestern Louisiana, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education and is a graduate of St. Joseph High School.

Mrs. Rosamond  is married to Tam Rosamond and the couple has two children, Stephen and Thomas Rosamond. Mrs. Rosamond is the daughter of Pat Migues & Jerome Migues.

Tia & Cameron Simmons have been active members of the community for many years. Mrs. Simmons currently serves Alderman at Large for the City of Jeanerette. She is employed by Exceptional Systems LLC. She has served as a law office manager and has worked for Whitney National Bank and the Bank of California in San Francisco. She has served her community through the Jeanerette Chamber of Commerce, Jeanerette Historic Preservation, Jeanerette Kiwanis Club, Boys & Girls Club, United Way of Acadiana, Ducks Unlimited, St. John the Evangelist Church and SNAP. Her volunteer efforts range from a donation of time, assistance and resources. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of New Orleans.  Cameron Simmons serves as Jeanerette City Court Judge. He has served as an attorney at law in private practice, as  Jeanerette City and Juvenile Court Judge and Shief Judge of the Chitimacha Tribal Court. Mr. Simmons is a member of serval law associations as well as a board of director for First National Bank and as a board of director of the New Iberia Museum Foundation. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business adminstration and a Juris Doctor  from Loyola University.

Judge and Mrs. Simmons are the parents of Jennifer and Cameron Simmons Jr.

Ken'Nadi Johnita Broussard is a senior at Assembly Christian School. She is the daughter of John Broussard Jr. and Idell Ward Broussard.

Ms. Broussard is an honor student and has received the Principal's Award for four years and the Perfect Attendance Award for four years. She received the Lion's Award for Student Excellence as well as receiving the Woodmen of the World History Award. She plans on attending either Nicholls State University or Northwestern Universtiy where she plans to obtain a degree in Health Studies with a concentration in Marketing and Management. She is a member of Our Lady of Rosard Chruch where she serves as a member of the Youth Choir, Liturgical Dance Team and as a lector/commentator.
